Standing on a high promontory with a commanding and breathtaking view of the island Fort George, originally built by the British in 1813 and named after King George III, is situated on one of the most breath-taking places on the island. The preparation of Peka takes about 3 to 4 hours, upon reservation you have to choose which kind of Peka you would like to have. As Roki’s is located outside the village in the mountains you can arrange a pick up (free for 4 or more, else 60kn return per car). Book by calling or dropping by at their wine shop near the Bejbi Bar in the harbour of Vis. Fresh fish and their famous Peka dishes are served amid olive groves and vineyards, accompanied by Roki’s own Plavac or Vugava wines. If you call Karijola 30 to 45 minutes ahead pizzas will be ready for pick up. Karijola is a perfect place to eat with children easy food and they can play without any danger on the little square next to the restaurant. As Karijola is not a hidden secret anymore it can be rather busy and the waiting time pretty long. Make sure to come a little early before Mediterranean dinner hours. Together with a local beer the evening comes to a perfect start. The pizza is absolutely great, Italian thin dough and crispy from the wood oven. The restaurant has its seating mainly outside with a magnificent view on the marina. Just before the church you will find Karijola. You will recognize the 16th-century wall and illuminated garden full with palm trees and bamboo. Kaliopa is situated half way the road towards Kut, next to the small police station. As most restaurants, Kaliopa offers you their own brewed liqueur while having dessert. If you are not in the mood for fish, try the lamb chops. We recommend the fried squid or tuna carpaccio as a starter. Big platters with the catch of the day to choose from and lovely grilled vegetables are our favourite. Tall palm trees, bamboo and classical statuary provide the setting for a menu of Dalmatian specialities, which change daily. In the exotic gardens of the 16th-century Garibaldi mansion, Villa Kaliopa is a restaurant full of romance and yachting enthusiasts. Restaurant Pojoda – Ulica don Cvjetka Marasovića 10 – Kut/Town of Vis – Tel: +385 (0) 21 711 575 Villa Kaliopa Pojoda is one of the few restaurants open throughout the year. The restaurant serves great wines from the island. Pojoda is famous for its daily fresh fish from the grill, but if you are a lover of squid we recommend the stew with lentils and as hero the squid. Zoran has built a reputation with his imaginative use of old recipes from Vis Island for simple, meals such as pasta and bean stew and octopus fritters. Pojoda’s kitchen is traditional with a twist of the chef and owner Zoran Brajčić. ![]() Especially on Mondays and Tuesdays it can be very busy as most rental sailing boats arrive at the island. Pojoda seats about 80 guests and during high season it is advised to make a reservation a day or two ahead. ![]() The restaurant is located in one of the traditional palaces in Kut, near the small port that is filled with boats during the summer. ![]()
